Botox Treatment For Excess Sweating

Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, can affect certain areas or the whole body and is often diagnosed during childhood or adolescence and sees sweating occur where there is no obvious environmental reason such as a heat or exercise. It can cause skin irritations, infection and cause difficulties in day to day life with perhaps a difficulty to pick up objects or being unable to effectively use and touch paper and metals. When other avenues of treatment such as lifestyle changes, prescription anti-perspirants and medication have failed to alleviate the condition, Botox can provide a solution.

You will have a consultation prior to your treatment where you will discuss your reasons for choosing this treatment and the areas on your body that require it. During your consultation your condition will be assessed for suitability for Botox injections.

Botox For SweatingBotox, the brand of botulinum toxin type A, commonly used for cosmetic treatments on the face to fill lines and wrinkles, is injected just below the surface of the skin into the area to be treated sometimes with an anaesthetic to relieve sensitivity pain. The specific type of botulinum toxin present in Botox blocks the chemical message from the nerves in the area in which it is injected and stops the sweat gland from being turned on.

The injecting of the Botox usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes, however you may have to wait for the anaesthetic to wear off should you have been injected with it at the same time. You will be advised on the length of time it will take at your consultation. The treatment will be administered at the clinic and you will not be required to attend hospital. You do not need to take any time off from work and will not require any assistance following the treatment. You will begin to see results after 3 days but it can take up to 21 days for the full outcome. You should be aware that Botox to treat excessive sweating is not a permanent solution and repeat treatments will be required every 6 months or so.

You will be advised on the price of your Botox treatment when you attend your consultation as we need to assess the condition being treated and the area. This will be explained in detail to you during this time.

As with any procedure, there are potential risks and complications. These will be discussed with you before any treatment takes place, along with your medical history and you will be provided with comprehensive information in relation to your specific procedure that you can take away and reflect over after your consultation. Don’t forget our friendly team are here to answer any questions you may have.
